Banner Storage Tips
When not in use it's always best to roll up a banner for storage.
Depending on your banner needs and uses there will be times when your banner may need to be stored in between uses or for transportation purposes. Proper banner storage is super simple and helps preserve the banner looks wise and longevity wise. Improper banner storage can lead to a banner that has creases coupled with cracked or peeling letters and is a complete eyesore.
The #1 Golden Rule of proper banner storage is to ROLL THE BANNER...NEVER FOLD! This rule applies to both vinyl banners or fabric banners. When you fold a banner it creates creases in the material which affect the overall look of the banner. Over time creases could lead to cracks in the banner or wearing out the material where the creases from improper banner storage have occurred. Your banner is not a blanket...so don't store it like one.
How to Roll a Banner for Storage:
- Digitally Printed Banners: When rolling up your printed banner for storage it's suggested the the banner is rolled with the digital graphics facing inward. This helps protect the graphics from any scratching or abrasions.
- Vinyl Lettered Banners: Lettered banners should be rolled up for storage in the opposite direction with the lettering facing outward. This helps keep the vinyl from crinkling that can occur if the text is rolled inwards.
- Fabric Banners: While some people tend to fold this banner style because it is a more pliable banner material, it is highly recommended to roll up fabric banners as well, because folding can lead to creases even on fabric banners.
- Double-sided Banners: Since there are images on both sides of the banner the actual rolling up of the banner can go either way with one side being exposed while the other is sheltered. To keep the wear and tear balanced you can switch up the roll every time the banner is stored.
After your have rolled your banner for storage it's best to place it inside of a sturdy protective case of some sort. If your banner was shipped to you make sure to save the shipping box for prolonged storage. If you picked up your banner from your local sign company, without a shipping box, you can request a box from them (a fee will usually be assessed for the box) or run out to your local mailing center and purchase a shipping tube or cardboard box that will accommodate the size of your banner when rolled up for extended storage.
