What to expect when your vinyl arrives.
Vinyl lettering orders will arrive as one piece for instant application.
Vinyl lettering is intended to be pre-spaced and come as one piece so that you don't have to line up letters and apply them one by one. This makes the application process fairly easy and straight forward for all sorts of do-it-yourself lettering projects. When your vinyl lettering arrives, take note that there are three actual layers that make up the piece. Here is a brief explanation of each layer, so you can better understand what you are working with, which will help with vinyl application.
- TOP LAYER: When your vinyl lettering arrives, the first thing you will notice is that there is a semi-transparent film over the lettering. This is what we call "transfer tape". The transfer tape has a very low-tack adhesive backing that will attach to the lettering to hold it in place when you apply the vinyl to your chosen substrate. Without transfer tape, you would have to pull each letter off individually and apply them by hand. So whatever you do...DO NOT remove the top layer upon receiving your vinyl letter. It is meant to be there and is crucial to the application process for vinyl lettering.
- MIDDLE LAYER: The middle layer of your vinyl lettering order is the actual vinyl lettering itself. The vinyl lettering is cut out to the shapes, letters, numbers or logos you ordered with the excess material weeded away. Pre-spaced and ready for application, the middle layer of lettering, when applied to your chosen surface, will have a nice clean finish because there will be no background.
- BOTTOM LAYER: The bottom layer of your vinyl lettering is the backing paper upon which the vinyl lettering sits. This is the layer upon which the adhesive vinyl lettering sits in preparation for application. Once the backing paper to the vinyl lettering is removed, the adhesive side of the letters is exposed for installation.
The sandwich effect of this product protects the lettering and makes it easily transferable to a multitude of different substrates. To see a quick video on exactly how to install vinyl lettering and vinyl decals, please see our "How To Install Vinyl" page.
