Will decals damage the application surface?
Decals are made to be applied and removed without surface damage.
Our adhesive decals, labels and stickers are easily applied to many different surfaces for many different short term and long term uses. But when time comes for removal, most customers wonder if the surface underneath the decal will suffer any damage. The answer is predominantly no. Most damage, if any, falls on the person performing the decal removal. If decals are removed properly, then they will not damage the surface in any way.
The only issue you may find after removing a decal is that there might be some residual adhesive left on the surface. This is easily handled by take a soft cloth with a mild cleaner and wiping it away. Now, removing a decal is a bit more time-consuming than applying a decal. And keep in mind that the longer a decal is in place, the more time the adhesive has had to make itself a home.
One other thing to keep in mind as well, especially for decals that are exposed to the elements, is the effects of time. What this means is that the surface under the decal is protected while the rest of the surface area is not. So when it comes time to remove the decal from the area, you might notice a difference in color. Now, this is not what would be considered damage by a decal, but simply nature taking it's course. But it is definitely something to consider for those who are placing decals on outdoor surfaces.
Safely removing a decal makes all the difference when it comes to surface damage. If you scrape a decal off harshly, you could damage the surface. Instead, arm yourself with a few key tools, when removing your decals, and just remember to take your time. A squeegee or a razor blade, that can help you get a portion of the decal away from the surface, will help start the removal process. Your hands will do most of the work by pulling off the pieces of the decal from the surface. And for decals that are a bit more aggressively stuck, you might want to try heating up the decal SLOWLY with a blow-dryer.
