Banner Hanging Tips
Depending on your banner type, there are several ways to hang a banner.
We carry several different banner types which can be hung in a multitude of ways depending on their location, either indoors or outdoors. Properly hanging a banner could mean the different between having a banner that will last for years or completely destroying a banner and having to replace it at your cost. Hastily installed banners could run into a myriad of problems that your banner company is not responsible for.
To ensure that your banner lasts outdoors for the longest amount of time possible, you'll first need to make sure it is installed properly. Banners that are hastily installed can run into a myriad of problems which will compromise their outdoor lifespan. Here is a list of ways to properly install most typical banners for the maximum outdoor longevity:
Proper Banner Installations
- Solid Surfaces: When your banner will be installed or mounted to a solid outdoor surface like brick, wood, walls, aluminum, etc. you'll need to secure the banner to the substrate with a screw and washer at every grommet point. For indoor installations, you can use nails or push pins because there are no elemental conditions to deal with.
- Chain Link Fence: The best way to install an outdoor banner to a chain link fence is with zip ties or "S" hooks. Again, installation to the outdoor life of your banner, so make sure to secure all grommet points to the fencing. Also, if your banner will be hung in a windy location, you might want to consider purchasing a Mesh Banner instead. Mesh banners are printed on perforated vinyl that allows wind to flow easier through the banner.
- Between Two Freestanding Surfaces: When installing an outdoor banner that will be hung between two separate objects, rope will be your friend especially for extra-large or extra-long banners. For small indoor banners, fishing wire is more appropriate, although rope can be used as well. Simply thread the rope or fishing wire through all the grommet points, on both the top and bottom of the banner, and then tie off the edges of the banner to the hanging points.
- Streetlight or Pole Systems: Pole banners are made with added in "sleeves" that are meant to slide over existing pole systems or purchased pole banner kits. Pole banners are very specific and need exact and correct measurements, to properly fit a pole system (including some banner stands), especially when it comes to the size of the pole, which will determine the sleeve or pocket-size of the banner. Usually, pole banners are produced without grommets because they don't need them. However, it is not unheard of to install grommets onto a pole banner so that the banner can be attached to the pole system with a hook or cord for added banner stability.
- Wind/Flag Banners: These banners usually are purchased in combination with a pole kit specifically designed for that particular style of flag banner. Wind and flag banners have a "sleeve", kinda like the pole banners listed above, that slides over an indoor or outdoor pole set. The flat portion of the banner is then attached to either a stake, for outdoor display, or a base for indoor display.
If your banner needs to be installed in any other fashion than the scenarios described above, please consult with your banner specialist to inquire about alternative banner hanging ideas or suggestions.
