Will magnetic signs damage my paint?
Not with proper installation and maintenance.
Magnetic signs are engineered for temporary, non-permanent mobile advertising that has no lasting effects on your vehicle. And typically when magnetic signs are properly maintained and installed there should be no damage to your vehicle's paint. And since we utilize high-quality, vehicle-grade magnetic sign material, you'll never have to worry have to worry about our magnetic signs becoming permanently attached to your vehicle (yes, this does happen with cheap magnetic sign material).
Properly maintaining and caring for your magnetic signs has a big impact on how this product will interact with your vehicle. By themselves, our magnetic signs will not damage your paint. But it is imperative that those who order and use our magnetic signs know how to avoid any instances where improper care and maintenance could actually lead to possible paint damage.
To avoid any paint damage like scratching or abrasions, you'll want to first make sure that your vehicle surface is clean and the magnetic sign backing is clean. Any time you apply your magnetic signs to your vehicle, both surfaces (the car and the magnetic signs) should be quickly cleaned to remove any dirt, dust or debris. If you continually put your magnetic sign onto a dirty car, the underlying dirt and debris will accumulate on the magnetic backing. Over time, this could possibly cause scratching or scuffing when installing and removing your magnetic signs.
Store your magnetic signs on a flat and clean surface while not in use. If your vehicle surface is clean, but your magnetic sign backing got dirty while being stored you could face the same problems because of dust and debris that has become embedded onto the back of the sign.
So before any magnetic sign installation make sure to wipe down the vehicle surface, as well as, the magnetic side of your sign. You can use a wet cloth and a mild detergent when wiping down magnetic signs. Just make sure that the magnetic signs (and your vehicle) are completely dry before placing the signs back onto your vehicle.
Another issue that could lead to possible paint damage is leaving your magnetic signs on for extended periods of time. Magnetic signs technically become a barrier between your vehicle and the elements. So if magnetic signs are left on for months to years, without ever removing them, you run the risk of the paint around the magnetic sign fading while the paint under the sign stays the same color as it originally was. So, again, customer maintenance is the key to making sure that magnetic signs do not damage your vehicle's paint.
